Dark Rose Hearts
Dark Rose Hearts
This lot of Dark tea is from Yuntai Mountain in Anhui County in Hunan Province, China and was made in 2020. It’s a compressed tea that yields a medium to full-bodied brew that is smooth as silk with haunting notes of rose at the finish that lingers for a while.
Pressed into gorgeous little 3-4 gram heart-shaped cakes, this particular Dark tea follows the century-old tradition of creating bricks of tea which historically was used in trade as currency or for long travels along the Tea Horse Road.
Seldom seen in the West, Dark tea (along with PuErh teas) are revered for their medicinal benefits which include lowering cholesterol and adding beneficial bacteria to the gut.
Dark teas will continue to evolve in flavor over time because it is alive with micro-organisms that occur naturally in the leaf. Though they can taste quite good when they are “young” – (less than 2 years old), the flavor will become richer and more complex each year as it ages.
